Dumb Question - Can replacement parts be purchased
I really biffed the hull parts on a GPM model I recently got (my first ever), and efforts at repainting the parts have just made the mess worse. These are the hull skinning pieces.
Does anybody have a contact email for GPM? I wonder if I can pay them to send me a PDF of the ruined pieces that I can print in replacement. |

You can try, but I already suspect what the answer would be.
Most people here recommend scanning those sheets(or the entire book) you think you might mess up, that way, you can print out a new sheet, and continue on. Some even buy two or more kits, to add detail, and to have spares Probably not what you wanted to hear at this time, but that is all I got Rick

Learned real quick to follow Rick's recommendations.

Adding to all being said, if you are hell bent on salvaging it without a scanned replacement, there is still the option of filling and sanding. Publishers are not known to provide part replacements (even when you ask nicely)

Hi;
One possible rescue effort, if you have not destroyed the parts yet, is to carefully lay out the parts on firm cardboard and glue them firmly. Then cut out the parts and use them as templates. Take a picture of them, save it as a photo and then transfer the picture to microsoft paint. You can then draw the parts to scale and recolor them. it will take some time and effort, but you might be able to continue the project. Sometimes it works, but other times.... Regards, rjccjr |

It may be cheaper to just get a second kit

I'd say, keep going, finish the Hull, then do some light surface sanding, puttying, priming and painting.
If the damage is isolated to the Hull, then repainting the Hull might not be that obvious. Especially if its below the waterline. What about turning it into a waterline model? How much of the Hull is damaged? ... You might also try sending GPM some photos of the damage. Prove that your problems are for real. Explain its your first attempt, and maybe they will have pity and offer to send you something. I remember years ago buying a plastic kit that had one damaged fuselage part. (one side of a GeeBee fuselage was deformed) I wrote to Testors, and they sent me a plastic bag with a whole new kit in it.

I wish it were below the waterline. It's above, and I tried to repaint, but its very obvious, since I can't for the life of me, match the color. That, and the skin is so tight on there that it just looks like hot garbage.
