Ways to practice skills

Hey all,

So, I have an interesting starting point. I did the 1/200 Bogen of the Titanic in memory of my father last year, and while there were some issues I'm overall very satisfied with the result.

I've moved on to the 1/250 HMW of the Bismarck and although everyone else is really impressed the further I advance, the more unhappy I am with the result. I think it's clear that I was overambitious. It looks fine from a distance but up close I'm not satisfied.

So, I was wondering if there's any website or book out there where you can teach yourself the skills to be a better paper modeller, or alternately a kit available digitally that would be good to practice skills again and again.

Thanks!

Just model on.

A whole lot of small models and quick builds will quickly put you a good learning curve!

It will come.

If you like planes S&P has a whole thread with free digital models. They look simple but will stretch your imagination and are a good workout for hands.

Bruno also has a bunch of ships on his list, those are a buck each.

Just take some time to observe here tutorials and the threads of construction of the teachers that are here and in a short time your skills will have an important change. You are in a place where extraordinary modelers gently show their techniques, tools, tricks, tips and everything that you have to know about this extraordinary hobby. What you learn here is incredible and something new appears constantly that helps you improve.

Yeah, I think I learned that the hard way. The Titanic looks great despite some mistakes where as the Bismarck just looks... off and sloppy. Well, I wasn't aware of that jump, I'm afraid...

That's fine. Can you recommend some models and quick builds?

I prefer ships, buildings and sci-fi/space but I'm willing to try planes. Where can I find S&P and Bruno?

By all means consult manuals and ask for advice where you can find it. You'll learn a lot that way. But experience is the best teacher, and developing skills needs practice. Just keep modeling and you'll work out ways of doing things which suit you. And keep smiling|
