Resizing an Orlik Lysander
Hi folks,
I've been mulling over making a Westland Lysander for a few weeks, deciding whether it would be a scratchbuilt wooden version, a plastic kit or a card one. Having had a look at Tim Crowes excellent Orlik build : Westland Lysander, Orlik 4/2014, 1:33 Scale I've sent off for the Orlik kit from Super Hobby. The thing is I'm not really wanting one that big, it's 33rd scale which will come out at a wingspan of 40cm. I was wondering what kind of issues I would face if I scan and resize it at perhaps 50th scale? Obviously making the smaller parts will become more difficult to fold and form but are there any other issues I should be aware of? Would using a thinner card compensate for difficulties forming shapes? So I would very much welcome anyone's insights into reducing the scale of a model, thanks Julian |

I can't help thinking you are going to be creating a whole load of problems rescaling this model.
It is a large model and quite fragile. I used an awful lot of super glue to strengthen the model. Even with a metal rod as the main spar the model was quite weak in this area. The Orlik Lysander is a great kit and builds up really nicely. If you follow the instructions and take your time it is not a complicated model. I would really recommend the laser kit for it. Hope this helps Tim |

Orlik model is very detailed,I don't see scaling it down withoult problems.
If you are looking for 1:50 kit Marek Pacynski did one some years ago.Get in touch with him,I'm sure he can sell you one.He makes decent 1:50 kits. |

Thanks Tim, that's given me something to think about. So is the laser-cut one a different issue of the kit or a supplemental thing? Julian

https://sklep.orlik-models.pl/low-cu...scription=true It makes the build a lot easier. It is a daunting kit, But not difficult. That being said there already is a 1:50 scale version available to build Tim |
