1mm Card

Is that basically the stuff cereal box is made of, because online I haven't easily found any place that sells it in the UK.

The only thing that matters for cardboard is thickness... layering cereal boxes is what I do for almost all my builds.

Cereal box thickness is about 0.5 mm. A good addition to the toolbox is a micrometer...there are many cheap ones available, even in the crafts stores....I've noticed that the larger hobby tool sets now include a simple micrometer in the mix.

For what its worth, you can find chipboard at nearly any crafts/scrapbooking website on the internet. Many will ship Internationally. I've even seen it on Ebay.

Thanks for the links, for now if I wanted 1mm thick card I'd have to use several layers of cereal/food boxes, is the spray on glue the best for that kind of thing?

On this side of the pond we use 3M-77 spray glue. This 3M glue is contact cement that is solvent based. Solvent based glues will not cause the card stock to warp. I press the glued card stock between two sheets of glass or thick Plexiglas to insure that the card stock dries flat. Rather then use the course card stock found in cereal boxes I use 2 sheets of 64-67 Lb (140 GSM) card stock to make 0.5 mm stock and 4 sheets to make 1 mm stock. When finished the card stock is exactly .5 and 1 mm thick. You will find that depending on how the thick card stock is being used that the thickness can affect the fit of other parts in a model. You will also find that this made up card stock is almost like working with sheet styrene plastic.

Okay, so if I print on 200gsm paper, then cut out pieces, then glue the pieces to scrap 200gsm paper I can build up the thickness and cut the piece out again? I think I've seen both 3M and UHU spray on glue in WH Smiths over here.

3M-77 is the best..No chance of delamination...I don't trust any other brand.
