I agree...we need some more folks to join in. This would be a great opportunity for any of our newer members or even some of our older *lurkers* to pitch in. It's been such a great learning experience so far and even to some extent a fun social event. No pressures or deadlines...it's perfect!

B, How many times do I have to say that real equipment is not allowed. You can cover up that real machinegun with some dull coat paint, but you aren't foolin anyone. Great job!!!
Ron, I'm with you. We need more folks to join in this fun. Jeff |

Well I got the wings on. Not too happy with the join to the fuselage :( but it is acceptable. Now she is in the Lego Fokker-Lokker (jig) ready to start doing some of the rigging. I inset the compass in the starboard wing and added a brass ring around it. I also sanded the metal finish to take the shine down. Last edited by B-Manic; 07-04-2010 at 05:58 PM. Reason: ~ spelling |

awesome job...but one thing I always wondered about, why the compass on the wing like that, and not in the cockpit?

Probably to keep it from being affected by the magnetic mass of the engine and gun. Also the cockpit is pretty crowded already.

I forgot that piece of the CT's comments. I believe B is right on that one. There is a lot of metal mass up front, but let's not forget how small that cockpit is. Where would you put the compass where it would be easily seen (understand the shadows created in the cockpit).
This isn't the first WWI aircraft I've seen a compass outside the cockpit to include on the struts. Jeff |
