Fokker Challenge (641/16) Ottoman Armed Forces 1916-17

Okay, I'm in. I really like these Fokkers. There were rather unique. In an age of Bi and Tri there were a few successful Mono's. The unique way to control roll...not with flaps, but with warpage of the wings. All very interesting.

From what I've been able to learn, in trying to find out more about this specific aircraft, the Turks used the E.IIIs mainly in the Middle East. As I was in the middle east on an all expenses paid tour I thought this would be a good choice.

I must make an initial disclaimer/whimper. I have a project going right now I need to finish first and then my Nephew and Niece will be coming for 2 weeks.

I'm looking forward to this project, if for no other reason then to use some tricks and techniqes I've seen recently to include one from Ron on his D.VI project.

I look forward to seeing this build, Jeff. I don't know much about Turkish WWI aviation, but when doing some research on the Gallipoli operation for an AWC lecture, I stumbled on a couple of websites with rather a lot of info and was astonished to find out how extensive the Turkish aviation force was, even as early as 1915.

Don,

I didn't know much about it, either. I thought this would be a good excuse to do some research. Thus far I've found some, but not a lot. :( I did find it interesting that most of the E.IIIs were stationed in Palastine and were flown by German pilots. "The E3 model joined the German air force in September 1915 and they also served for the Turkish air force, mainly at the "Pasha" Regiment (Fliegerabteilung-300) in Palestine where German pilots served. 9 aircrafts of this model were deployed between 1916 and 1917." The quoted part is from: Turkey in the First World War - Turkish Aircrafts - Fokker

One country flying for another... Hmmm, like that situation has never happened, eh?

I finally got started on this kit. I didn't get far today, but it is a start.:o

I had some issues and discovered the seat was sitting too far back.
So, the plane was recalled and sent back to the factory for repairs.
To make a long story short while trying to move the seat forward one thing led to another and the entire thing had to be scrapped. I was only able to save the seat and a couple of formers.

I looked at some of the photos of the original aircraft and decided one of the features I really wanted to include was the hand operated fuel pump on the right front of the cockpit. That would imply a fuel tank. So, I included the tank behind the seat. I also included some seatbelts and foot controls.
