Samurai armor, and kabuto paper models

The sites listed below have Japanese armor and helmet paper models for free downloading. The first site is new to me, the others have been posted on other forums, but it is nice to be reminded of them.

The Honda museum and Mogammiyoshiaki sites are worth exploring. Babel Fish or Google reduce but to not eliminate the mysteries associated with Japanese language web sites.

This page has pictures of a very nice paper model of a complete set of armor, but there does not appear to be download or purchase link. Sigh.

As far as I know, this sort of model is probably an ancient tradition in Japan. This picture I took in a book is about a model created in 1880 by Utagawa Yoshifuji (the artist who create this papermodel). It was generaly offered to boys when they were old enought, to tell them that they became men.
(sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understood why I want to say...:o)

Cher M. Pat Kraft:

Thank you for posting the very interesting and wonderful image of the Boys Day paper model of the O Yoroi samurai armor and its travel case. This is what I have been looking for, for years without much success. Could I, on behalf of my fellow modelers, ask if it would be possible for you to make a high resolution copy of the model and post it in the downloads section?

I don't think there will be a copy right problem since the print was published before 1923, and the artist, his immediate relatives and the publisher are all now long gone.

I have always wondered why no one had made a paper model samurai, it turns out there must have been a lot of them, but none done recently. The Japanese now appear to have little interest in the subject, unless it is as a samurai gundam or related to cos play.

Merci pour le cadeaux!
Thanks for the gift from the past!

I wish you could open the Cannon model box and find the rest of suit of armor inside it.

Completed Antique Samurai Armor Model

The antique samurai armor paper model is a fun build. The model sheet does not have instructions, but it does have a tiny "thumbnail" showing what the completed model should look like. And when not on display everything fits into the lacquer storage box.
Thanks for sharing.
