I noted that he said a certain amount of detail and
coloring was lost in the pdf format but none was lost in the tif formatted files. This is one of the reasons I prefer the tif format to work on models and to e-mail and transport files. His birds are quite realistic...Ron |

His detail loss comes from the scanning of a painted model part.
His original design is printed as a black and white design, then he paints over with watercolours. They would still look very realistic in real life, but would not scan very well. Add to that, a lower scanning resolution and you end up with a poor quality copy. Saving the final design as a tiff or pdf has no bearing on its quality. In fact PDF formats are used in high quality printing to retain quality and detail when exporting designs to printing programs. Thats how we do it when printing Billboards, and all large format print jobs. The bigger advantage with PDF is saving elements of a design (or the whole design) in different formats and qualities for printing use, or image save, or web use or emailing, etc Just like jpegs, gifs, tiffs and pngs, there are different levels of compression in all these formats resulting in different levels of quality. In this case, the fact that his shared models are PDF is not the direct reason for their final quality. ................ it would have been lovely if he shared one of the original black and white designs, but that would be giving away a major component of his amazing artwork!
