Smile Native American Models

This site has some patterns and instructions aimed at history teachers.

Free Teacher's Resources and Projects

The are very simple and easy to build as one would expect for a classroom project. But they might make a good start for a diorama.

You're all very welcome. I'm actually working on a NaNoWriMo novel that has a Native American theme and was doing research on long houses when I found the site.

The tipi model is nice to let the kids decorate with their own symbols. I suggest you try one out before letting the children make one so you can determine if any problems will arise.

The use of the bamboo skewers for the poles will give some children some problems. I wound up using flat toothpicks and just glueing them at the top so they stick out. It seemed easier for the children with less frustration. The smoke flap poles were sections of split bamboo skewers long enough to achieve the effect needed. A piece of scrap paper rolled up and placed above the door opening served as a door covering.
