New ACW Ship
Our Swedish friend has a new ship up on his blog - the Paddle Steam Ferry 'Commodore Perry'. Another nice addition to his growing line of ACW naval combatants. Well done and greatly appreciated (by me, at least ).

Another great one! Somehow, the image of a ferry with a spar torpedo seems a little silly, though. I mean, what ship couldn't outrun the ferry!?!
Thanks for posting this! Chris |

I know the spar torpedo sounds silly, but consider that 1) as a ferry she was very maneuverable, and 2) she was part of the James River Squadron. the torpedo would have given her a chance in the narrow parts of the river if the CSS ironclads at Richmond ever decided to come out.

I looked this ship up on Google and found some really nice pictures. The railings in the rear were removable, I imagine to facilitate shooting the canons. The spar torpedoes would have served also as a deterrent if she was blockading a river. She has a very intense history. and saw many battles. A great ship indeed.
