Hobby Link japan
Now and again I look at the above web site and for the first time found a paper craft section.
Beware, these are not free models - but vary in price from a few pounds up to more than £30! http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?MacroType2=PapCra&GenreCode=Boo&DisplayMod e=images&Dis=2&Sort=std&qid=91HOCVBV2Z5AQ&z=MacroT ype2&Page=1 Cheers Mike |

I bought from them every now and then, specially when they have sale or offering free shipping. Very good service.

The Sankei "Miniatuart" series of pre-printed laser-cut kits are very nice.

Expensive!
Bl**dy hell! Talk about expensive! "...few pounds up to more than £30..." - you're not kidding! £17 ($28) for a book of 24 extremely simple car models that don't even have 3D wheels - just one-piece fold-up models - the sort loads of sites give away free?
The Apollo Saturn is £89 ($144) and it's just the DVD of files - I quote - "This is a DVD of images intended for you to print out onto paper (not included), using your own computer and printer, to then assemble as a papercraft kit. ..... Requires a printer capable of printing A3 size paper. " ( -anything from £150 to £400) "PDF files compatible with Macs and Windows machines. While the mobile launcher is included in this kit, the crawler transporter underneath is NOT included" - that's another £29 ($48) Now, it may just be me, but I think it's a tad expensive for that. Not one for my bookmarks list. |

And don't forget the shipping, which can (and mostly WILL) cost more then the item(s) you want. Only really interesting models on there are the Yamato, Arcadia and the various buildings, in my opinion. And maybe that book with the WWII ships.

Definitely pricey, but some of the Sankei laser cut models of pre-war Japanese buildings are very tempting ...

It is an expensive site, and the shipping can be complex, as the rates vary greatly by weight. I found the emails were rapidly answered, and the service excellent. Free shipping would be a huge bonus.
However, it is worth exploring, though the search engine is sometimes quirky. It is the only place I know to get several nice models. They carry the reissued series of Tomis (French) architectural models that used to be called "L'histoire dans les mains", : Roman House, Egyptian temple, Cistercian monastery, Mediaval castle, all of which are beautifully printed and feature complex interiors. They also carry the curious tiny "Paper Minicraft Mini" series of Japanese castles and other mostly subjects, each at 600Y. Finally, ther are several books of dinosaurs, printed on paper that is like a brushed aluminum version of Red Rivver silver metallic. So if you are into large shiny silver dinosaurs, HLJ is your place.

Here is one of the Shubunsha re-prints of a French (Tomis) model:
Egyptian Temple and here is one of the Paper Model Mini models. There are about 30 in this series: Kinkakuji (got the name of this series wrong in my previous post)

I've got some of the mini models. I've made a few of them and the fit is very good. One is similar to Himeji castle and is only about two inches tall. Perhaps I should stick to these kits - It would solve my storrage problems !
I've also made the Shubunsha Himeji castle. It's a great kit. Luckily, I was able to trade a few of my kits for these japanese kits, so didn't have a problem with shipping etc. Cheers Mike |
