Well, looking at the options for shipping things...
at a vendor's website, it was getting pretty expensive too when going from NA to EU. But, again, how do commercial shippers compare to the "postal services" for shipping packages?

Comparatively, commercial shippers are through the roof - totally different costing paradigm...when I bought my 1/32 Avro Vulcan in the other modelling medium, shipping quotes (because it was too big for Royal Mail) ranged from 80-240GBP....
All the European online retailers I have dealt with (in Poland, Germany and the Ukraine) have all been happy to confirm the postage cost by email; often this is quite different from the auto quote in the shopping cart....one even advised that I could buy one more model without increasing the postal cost: good marketing for him and better cost effectiveness for me...

The normal post is the most cheap way to send packages overseas here in Germany and also in Austria. A package from Germany via UPS to the USA would cost... not kidding here! ... approx. 220,- US$!!!!

Yikes!
Now that is one business model I don't understand... I thought FEDEX & UPS were global and commercially viable alternatives to any other means of shipment. Guess I was mistaken.
Thanks for the education, Marco.
