Not sure if this is the right place, but I just "Found It On The Internet":

These are .3ds models of various NASA vehicles, tools, etc.

...And the really cool thing is that the cheap version of TurboCAD Mac that I have can open these!

.3ds models can be imported into pepakura designer (including the trial version) easily and there are many other free programs such as blender and gmax that import them as well.

I have been using CtrlView for years, just to view 3D models of things. It works extremely well, and the author gladly adds other formats when he can.
