Ipms/usa
International Plastic Modeler's Society USA
Check the navigation bar, "Upcoming Events," for a contest being held near you. Get out of the paper modeling contest and let others know you exist! Join a local club and join in the fun and experience of modeling groups. Worry not about acceptance. Instead, be prepared for "that's paper?" comments, and show everyone how fun and easy they are to build. Our own moderator, cMags, placed in three categories at an IPMS contest last weekend...against plastic....with his well executed paper models. He will testify to the acceptance and surprise among the more ubiquitous plastic modelers. Tell 'em you read about it here, first!

It is worthwhile to get out to the contests. I do so frequently, and routinely place against plastic kits,
even taking the occasional best of category. Even though I haven't built a plastic kit in about 10 years, I still judge with them, and use the events to help teach them how to judge paper models. Not only is it good friendship, you can learn a lot of techniques that will cross-medium from plastic to paper and paper to plastic. Just do it!!

I know who you guys are! I've always wanted to go to one of your contests, but could never get out thataway at the proper time! So, it looks as if we have the choir checking in. How do we let the rest of the forum know?
