Has anyone seen this recent post on Salon.com?

Anyway, thought there would be a few here that would find this interesting.

Oh yeah, I have been watching this as things come up on the 'Net about it. It is pretty amazing that he is able to stabilize card board in layers to come up with something that can be ridden like this.

Another non-traditional bycycle material is bamboo -- a "How It Works" episode showed how a company epoxied lengths of bamboo into metal joint fittings, for a frame that's strong, but flexible -- and apparently sells for a significant price.

Paper carts, cycles, or wagons would be natural projects for members of this forum, although I suspect they'd need lots of reinforcement with fiberglass and resin. But if the designer could make the patterns available, I'll bet he could sell many kits of parts that have to be other materials, e.g., metal chains and rubber tires.

This is a pretty amazing project. I think that the total cost of cardboard materials is supposed to be something like $15.00. I don't think it's intended for mass production though. One strange thing that I just noticed from the photo is that there seems to be a valve stem protruding from the inside of the front wheel. I thought for sure that the "tires " were a hard rubber compound. Could they really be pneumatic tires?
