New Guinness World Record for Largest paper model of the Titanic

Quote:
APPLE VALLEY, CA, USA -- Ronald Luntz, 70, spent more than eight hours a day in his Apple Valley home for the past three months and built a 7-foot model of the Titanic which is a foot wide and 3 feet high and sets the new world record for the Largest paper model, according to the World Record Academy
Largest paper model of the Titanic: Ronald Luntzn breaks Guinness world record

I know there are some serious Titanic builders on this forum, I so thought some of you would be interested in this story. In fact, I was kind of wondering if this fellow Luntz is, perhaps, a member. Hit me up the side of the head if he is and I'm unaware. Then again, maybe a guy who builds a 7 foot paper Titanic doesn't have much time left for web forums.

As impressive as his model is Mr. Luntz's model is a not quite the largest card model.

For over 20 years the The L.A. Maritime Museum in San Pedro had a model of the RMS Titanic and RMS Lusitania on display and both were card models. As I remember they were 1/4 inch to the foot that would make the Titanic 18.4 foot long. They were superb models one side was a cut away complete down to the bilges.

LA Times article on the model;

Very interesting?
And in the same State!

So, maybe GWR needs to be informed?

Although...
Pirrone's model is "mostly scrap cardboard"
(Some might argue the difference...not paper....I wouldn't)

and how much is "mostly"?
Luntz' model could be entirely of paper.

And Pirrone's model is a cutaway...not a complete Ship.
(another argument?)

An the biggest question of all...does it still exist?

I've seen the Maritime Museum's Titanic, and it's a monster. It does use non-paper materials though, like brass, velvet and other types of fabric.

Yes. I suspect the Guinness folks are sticklers for details like material consistency. Mike's Saturn V looks like it could be mistaken for a missile or something. I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA is keeping an eye on him via satellite. I just wonder where people who build 7 foot paper Titanics and 12 foot paper rockets live where they can store these things. An 18 inch airship takes up a lot of space around here.
