Origami Tutorial and Folding Patterns
Origami might or might not be considered a form of paper modeling.
This site has a nice how to section and a collection of folding patterns: The Origami Page or Origami Both links are for the same web site, one just has fancier formatting. Last edited by John Wagenseil; 01-22-2014 at 11:15 PM. |

Thanks John!
I've always liked Origami and make some to give away while travelling. I found an app that gives step-by-step directions to fold a peacock from a dollar bill. I give these out when I go to restarants. Always brings a smile. Maybe there should be a thread in "Other Things We Do" that has pictures of models that have been folded by forum members? I'd love to see some of their work! Best Regards,

I actually stumbled across paper modeling while looking up information about Origami! I too do it while traveling (no nasty pointy things the TSA seems to obsess about).

Great resources. Thanks for the original post, John.
Some years ago, Lil gave me a book with instructions for making origami airplanes. If you made the multitude of folds properly you would, if the images of completed models could be trusted, end up with a realistic, if somewhat rumpled looking, Phantom or Su-17 or some other aircraft. I struggled with one of the models for a long time, after which my daughter-in-law, who is orginally from Taiwan, came into the room to ask what I was doing. I told her and she asked if she could try. She made a few additional folds, pulled on either end of the folded conglamoration of paper, and a clearly recognizable F-16 popped into existence. Amazing! I said. You didn't even look at the instructions! "Father," she said patiently, picking up her coffee cup and walking from the room, "I'm Asian. I don't need instructions to fold paper." Don |
