Wish I could have gotten a ride in the EAA Museum's Trimotor when I was there a few years ago but it was down for maint. then darn it!

Was also surprised the Royal Australian Air Force used 2 in 1942, model available for sale at ECcardmodels, just bought it !

I got to see this airplane in person. They stopped over at Jefferson County Airport near Port Townsend, WA. They have a small air museum there. Port Townsend Aero Museum

I am amazed...looking through the photos attached to the original story...at the all metal construction.
The corrugated metal skin,the lattice work of square tubing, bracketry, radial engines...

and yet, this entire plane weighs no more than two modern day compact automobiles?!

I helped to get one for the Aviation Heritage Museum in Anchorage many years ago.

Flew a mission in a Huey to photograph the recovery/transport of a PBY from King Salmon. Alaska to Anchorage where I was based at. The Museum creator/president was onboard my Huey along with the camera crews.

He mentioned needing to go to Flat, Alaska to check out a Ford Tri-motor that crashed near there in Iditarod.

On a really nice evening I flew him out in a rented Piper Warrior. He made contact with the owner, who agreed to let him have it for the museum.

Very interesting flight. When I arrived at Flat, noticed a marker midway down the runway. While waiting for Ted to get back (I stayed with the airplane), walked down to see what the marker said. Wiley Post had crashed there on his around-the-world flight.
