Try the full link in the PM that's on its way. And while Deviant Art has lots of fascinating stuff, I've had similar problems searching there myself. If I'm ever desperate for another project, I might devote serious time to figuring out its apparently strange organization.

I fed Merlin (There's a lot), and later just Chess set (There's 'undreds) into the Dev. art search box, but I didn't find a Merlin Chess set.

Mind you, I did get plenty of other ideas for card chess sets.

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.
I can't be sure, but I think this is the set he's talking about:

Papermau: Black Or White? Chess Pieces Paper Models - by Merlin The Red - via DeviantArt

This has inspired me to work on a design of my own - simple, geometric, but I like it so far (constructive criticism welcome).

Yep ! That's the one Dabeer. Nice and simple, but very attractive. I just might add the magnetic idea and put it on the wall.

Yale PM'd me a link (Cheers Yale) so I have already got it. I wonder why Dev.Art search couldn't find it?

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

There's one at the Lower Hudson Valley E-gift Shop. I've tried to post a link, but it won't accept my post that way.

Dear List folks:
In the craft and hobby shops you can find magnets as flexable sheets cut with sissors and glue to the back of the board and to the bottom of the chess pieces just make sure about the side to go down to attract rather than repel.
Nice Projects,
MILES

wait!!
what a great idea.
put the magnet material on the bottom of the chess pieces
and under the squares of the board.
But...alternate flipping the magnets on both the pieces and the board.

This makes certain pieces repel on certain squares...which restricts where
every piece can land...which adds a totally new element to the game!
For those of you that want that extra challenge!!

Not to mention it would be neat to see some pieces floating off the board! lol

...
okay, glue little squares of magnetic material to the paws of your cat.
And then lay a sheet of magnet material on the floor
...with the repel side up.
Then watch as your cat tries to walk across unable to actually touch the floor!
Its a cat-astrophy!

sorry...back to Chess...

Thanks very much -- that looks like the Staunton set. It would be impressive to see. But all the time necessary to make 32 pieces explains why I haven't even started.

For the Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model Shop Chess Set
you should post to this page:

The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model E-Gift Shop - Photo Gallery - Miscellaneous/Other

and not directly to the file index at jleslie48.
Just to be fair to the site and the owner.
(Did ya read what rickstef posted?)
