help wanted please

Hi,
Does anyone know of a free nice freighter ship that will fit my model train. The scale of te trains is 1:87. I've found some ships but the scale is 1:400 and is confusing me.
Is the scale of 1:200 or 1:400 fitting the railway of 1:87?
Can anyone give me some tips in the matter.
Thank you all

Hi footlover,
I think scale of 1/200 or 1/400 is a little too small.
Look at scalescenes.com. There is a very nice small freighter in OO scale for a small price. :-)
Greetings

1:200 is a little smaller than half-size compared to 1:87. 1:400 would be about a fourth of the needed size. The 'small' ship will still take up a lot of real estate on your track.

Yes, a ship that is 50m long would be 575mm long at 1:87 scale.

The O scale model Sven referenced is 600mm long. O scale is around 1:76 scale. To convert from the 1:76 scale to the 1:87 scale you would print the 1:76 scale at 87.36% and the ship would be 524mm long.

Big models.

Svens tip of scalescenes.com has this
scalescenes.com Ship in OO & N gauge (1/76 & <1/160)
Which gives you an idea of size.

If you find another scale & can print by DPI, you can adjust the scale.
About DPI & printing: -
Change DPI
Print size

You would need to calculate the scale adjustment & set dpi accordingly, so it is more work!

You could use smaller scale freighter on your layout if you place it in background and use "forced perspective". This will give appearance of ship in far distance.
Canon Creative Park has ship models.
Instead of freighter you might consider a small intercoastal ship.
