This is called a WIG ( Wing In Ground affect ). Or as is also known as an Ekranoplane. Flying vehicles that only stay above the water a few meters to stay in the air layer between the wing and the surface of the water. This way it need a much smaller wing for lift.



Yes, The NM-1 model is simple. However, it is very large, so keeping it straight is important.

A long time ago I found a simple paper model launched with a rubber band that demonstrates the WIG effect. It was called Wing-in-surface-effect or WISE. Fun to play with but as I recall you need a long, flat area to launch it.

I just finished this fine model. It was a fun build of average complexity.
It is very long ( 80 cm ), but the wingspan is short, so you can hang it on the wall if you wish.
