Nitrate Dope Treatment

Nitrate Dope can be applied anytime but preferably prior to the build. Thinning with approximately 30% acetone allows deep penetration into the card stock.

If anyone tries dope, be sure it is nitrate dope and not butyrate dope. It shrinks and I imagine would ruin a paper model.

Adhesive Compatability

@Zot, Nitrate Dope is compatible with all adhesives used in card modeling. Of course there's probably an exception but I haven't run into it yet.

Brings up something that Nitrocellulose Dope is useful for, it preserves print detail when moistening paper for forming compound curves using molds.

Wouldn't hairspray do the same but cheaper.
And you get to select the smell.

I've been using this on my all paper planes for quite a while. Fantastic, strengthens the paper
and gives a semi-glossy look. Of course darkens white parts a little but okay.

Okay, sounds great. Stupid question time. Do you apply it before or after you cut out the part?

Before is better as it gives strength to the paper when building the model. No harm done
to give the finished model another coat of clear to make it more glossy. The only thing is
that I'm not sure if it's toxic so make sure you have good ventilation when you brush the
clear paint onto the parts.

Ah, just paint the part before cutting it out from the page. Let it dry before working on it.
So it's just like doing a painting, paint only the parts and leave the blanks alone.
