Illinois buildings

Interested in some of the finer buldings in the greatstae of IL?

Well, here's a site where you can find em anyway!

Build Your Own Main Street

Actually some nice kits; Lincoln's places of varied experiences, and old state captial, a old depot, a university structure that could have been pulled out of Arkham...

Hey! really! some nice stuff...and did I mention...FREE!:D

BYOMS is a great project, funded by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The models are in HO (1/87) scale, so they can be easily used by many model railroaders. The designs are rather simple but effective, some of the graphics are quite good.

I've built these. If I had a camera would post some pictures. They are pretty easy to build and, as Art Deco has already said, they have some great graphics. The Lincoln set is printed out and waiting for modeling space to be returned from the sewing machine monster.

The Lincoln series range from easy to very difficult. BYOMS is a good jumping off point for those wanting to try an architectural model. There are enough models available to make a pretty good representation of most any downtown main street in the Midwest.

My Illinois main street buildings.

I built three of them and another one representing a motel (called OHIO HOUSE MOTEL).
I only modified the scale to have 1/72 models.

Here are some pictures:

The motel, coming from another free download :
I fits with the other models.

I exhort everyone to downlowd and build these models, they are very fine an details can be enhanced if you download twice a model and reline some pieces with a second layer of paper to give some relief on something which could be too "flat-appearing" (what I did not do at this time, but will do with the future models of the set).

Bye!

Thanh Thuy.

With a little shabby work and dirt, I think you create Bayonne, N.J. with those models.
