Sounds like a consumer version of the uv curing adhesive that dentists use.

As a retired Dentist, I can tell you that it is gunna have problems. You need a rough surface (think dry tooth enamel) and the cost per drop is quite high. Aleene should not panic.

Looks like a cool setup. Wonder how it would do on a plastic model kit.

Best plastic "cement" is MEK...methyl ethyl ketone, hardware store! cleanest seams because it welds the two parts together (melting on each side...and yes it is a harsh chemical (been using it for ever and am still alive and in perfect health!...72)

But will that Bondic stuff bond polypropylene or polyethylene? A lot of products claim they will but the results are usually somewhat disappointing.

Polypropylene or Polyethylene
MEK will not bond these two polys, it is strictly for Polystyrene. However there is a cement (will look up name) found in hardware stores from "Loctite" which will do the job. Basically it is a two part procedure, first the two parts are coated with something (comes with cement) thus isolating the polypropylene or ethylene, then using a CA type to stick them together...the tube is very small!

Thanks for the info about MEK, but I was wondering if that Bondic stuff that is the subject of this thread would work on PP or PE. That Loctite stuff, although it states it will bond those plastics, does not perform well at all. Frequent failures occur with even a slight amount of force. What is needed is something more than a surface treatment that bonds to itself.

Polyprop and polyethene are usually heat welded. Harbor Freight has a cool tool to do the job. We repaired a poly solar collector with it and it is still holding 2 years later. I don't know of any cement for these materials. I too use MEK for plastic.
