Man these are miles away from the Canon Craft Town, Bandai VooV or even the Paperm.jp street tiles! Really cries out for the realistic Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan or Toyota cars to fill up the parking spots.

Technical aspects of TATEBANKO design and assembly

A fascinating, and possibly the definitive English language discussion of Japanese tatebanko.

Optical Illusion in Old Japanese Kabuki Dioramas, by Tony Cole and Robert Tauxe, in the Painter's Journal, Fall 2009 (p. 4-11)

There is important information about how to assemble, mount and display tatebanko (hint: the sight lines need to be aligned and the base angled up towards the back).
The original tatebanko where surprisingly large, the example in the article is 90 cm (1 yard or 36 inches) in width so our versions printed on letter or A4 paper are extreme miniatures of what the designer originally intended.

or use the direct link which opens the PDF in your browser

While the "Painter's Journal" was aimed at theatre set designers the journal contains a lot of material that is useful to model makers and diorama builders and model railway enthusiasts.

Fish Decoys from Japan

I think this site I have posted before as containing many examples of wonderful unobtainables of cars and other desirable objects.
Mikio Kajiwara is one of the artists featured on Canon Creative Park.
I stumbled across his site again and noticed the fish decoys, which I do not, from my last visit, remember.

or for the direct link to the fish

The entire web site of Kajiwara san is worth exploring to see his paper model designs and all the other things that he does. He has blog about paper models hosted on a different site
https://ameblo.jp/kgblog001/theme-10039809129.html
His physical gallery of paper models has its own web page

and is viewable from above

There are a lot of recent posts on Mauther's blog, PAPERMAU , about the "hidden", or Japanese language only paper models, on the Canon Creative Park site.

He has hunted down these "secret" models and made the links available to all of us who are unable to read Kanji.

Updated Canon Costumes of the World

Some of us remember Canon's Costumes of the world series, now long gone from their web site, but still partially available on the "Wayback Machine". These were very simple, easy to assemble models , that were the entry level introduction to paper modeling for many people.
Canon appears to have revived the series with a set of new Costumes of the World Models, you can find the link here:
PAPERMAU: Costumes In The World Dress-Up Paper Dolls - by Aya Honda
The new models by Aya Honda are in eye popping colors.
Canon has been releasing a lot of new paper models recently, some of which appear only on the Japanese language section.
Papermau has been providing frequent updates about the appearence of new releases on Canon Creative Park.
