A thumbnail of a 19th c. paper model samurai armor

Here is another example of a 19th c. paper model of a samurai armor and its storage box. The image I found was low res and skewed so I am posting it as a thumbnail rather than as something that can be built.

Samurai Armor and Storage Box- An ancient error of spatial orientation.

I discovered a 100 year old design error that probably resulted in frustrated boys who had tried to make the paper model, and peeved parents because they had spent a couple of mon on a flawed product and now had to deal with a cranky kid.
The designer got the orientation of one of the armored sleeves wrong. You will see what I mean if you try to assemble the model.
The modern paper modeler has a quick fix: print two copies of the model, and use the sleeve part with the correct orientation twice, or better yet, print the model, then flip the page 180 degrees and print it again to correct the designer's mistake.
Once this error is corrected, the samurai armor is an interesting build, that demonstrates the differences from and similarities with contemporary French and German lithographed paper models.

It is a a single page wood block print of a Samurai Armor, most likely intended as a Boy's Day gift or for display on Boys Day. The model includes a complete armor, and a storage box. When the armor is not inside the box, the box can be used as a display stand.
I uploaded zip file with a copy of the 150 year old woodblock print and my attempt to restore it to its original colors.
A while back I posted a link to a similar model, but that one had a missing edge so some of the parts were incomplete, the one just uploaded is complete and not bad looking considering the original is a 150 year old print on poor quality paper. I have seen another paper model of a samurai armor from about the same period, so this type of model must have been a popular item.
The paper armors must have been more affordable than some of the metal and silk lacing Boy's Day miniature armors that are currently for sale.

New at Niku-Mansei

At Papermau is a link to a detailed model of the Niku-Mansei corporate headquarters building. They are a manufacturer of food products'
PAPERMAU: Akihabara Tower Japanese Building Paper Model - by Niku Mansei
Also new to me on the Niku-Mansei site is a paper diorama or finger puppet theater of the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf.

Don't forget to download the instructions. Niku=Mansei seems to have taken some liberties with the original story, since the model appears to be of a mama pig and her two piglets, but I can forgive them.
Also look at the other models there if you have not previously visited the site.

Also from Papermau, links to an Indonesian Filling Station and Gas Tanker Truck:

I am not going to provide the link, but if you explore the site, there are some pages with a cow queen and princess that can be downloaded, printed, and then coloured .

Japanese paper theater

I apologize in advance, because this is an incomplete paper toy.
This is a Japanese paper story theater, which consists of two sheets of paper.
One is the theater, which has two holes cut in it to reveal the story images.
The other is a sheet of images which can be shown two at a time, and the story is told based on the image pairs which are shown in sequence by the story teller.
Unfortunately, on the "theater" with its two peep holes is available as a high resolution image. The all important page with the story pictures is only available as a thumb nail .

Several Sets of Kabuki Themed Tatebanko

This page has many links to complete sets of tatebanko
Click on an image, then on the page that displays a larger picture, and information about the print, click on the title to go to to page with thumbnails of all the prints in the set, then click on each thumbnail, to get the large picture.
Ok, that was pretty incomprehensible, so just do what I did, click on everything until you find what you are looking for, and use Google translate for help.
This tatebanko is of the final act revenge scene of the 47 Ronin which is worth down loading if you are obsessive about Samurai movies.
