The leader of the forty-seven retainers of Asano Takumi-no-Kami Naganori; they avenged the death sentence passed on their lord by killing Kira Kozuke-no-Suke Yoshinaka, who had provoked the incident leading to it.
Afterwards, they were generously permitted to commit ritual suicide.
