Problems with newer strike aircraft.

I found an article while following up on a thead here on the A7 Corsair II, apparently crews are suffering problems such as low tissue oxygenation during flights/missions and points out a reduction in the numbers of F-22 acquired. It seems this line of physiological concerns was the cause of the reduction in F22's acquired for service. Article here, Navy, Congress Looking Into F/A-18, EA-18G Physiological Episodes | Defense Media Network.

Last I had read, they have fixed the hypoxia issue in the F-22. Unit cost was another reason for cutting production short. Now, I just hope they don't muck up the LRS-B contract as bad as they did the F-22 & F-35, and KC-X programs. The decision to pick Northrop-Grumman design has already been protested by the Boeing/Lockheed Martin team.

I really think northrop grumman deserves to make this one. It's not like these lockheed/boeings are so spectacular and cheap and flawless

Budget overruns and late deliveries are normal concerns in any project which can lead to reduced orders or cancelled projects and these were the main problems that lead to the halt of the production line. That and the belief in the force multiplier effect of the stealthy F-22, especially with its battle data management and system integration capability.

The physiologocal problems were not a reason for halting the production at 187 as that cancellation order was placed a year before the first fatal crash and investigation occurred.

That and a rapid transfer of the budget from manned aircraft to drones which are cheaper to develop and build AND run. If we were thinking logically we would use highly developed drones for the initial assault and iron hand/wild weasel missions while using cheaper manned aircraft where the mark one attached to a trained brain can be effective, in missions where civilians can lead to changing mission parameters. Shoot/don't shoot can sometimes still need a human being in the hot seat and the A-7F et al would be highly mission effective even now for less money.
