If he was 82 in 2013 I wonder if he is still alive and what will happen to the ships when he passes.
Found this which says the ships and planes both have moving parts.
Model maker meets his match (From Bournemouth Echo)
Also mentions how youngsters don't realize matchsticks used to be wood. Also that he has gotten donations of material.

matchsticks are still wood over here.i wonder if he built them from plans or just from photos.either way its a great collection

The matchsticks we have here are still wood as well, but they are shoddy - made out of the worst possible wood.

No good for anything, and one certainly cannot use them for modelling.....
