I always thought a primary ingredient in the fuel was gold flakes.

Just read were the Marines were having to pull some F-18s out of the Tucson Boneyard to refurbish since they still don't have operational F-35s.

The F-35 program should have been scrapped long ago. What a turkey!

@ forum,
the more i read and learn about this 'program', the angrier i get as a taxpayer.

i really appreciate US civil and military aviation, past and present. I grew up within sound and sight of McDonnell/Douglas in St. Louis, lived near Cherry Point MCAS for five years and reside now within twelve miles of Allison/Rolls Royce engines in central Indiana.

so far as i know (and please correct me if wrong), only one aircraft can lay claim to being a 'jack-of-all-trades', and it belonged to a defeated Luftwaffe in WWII. My view: we cannot reasonably expect the same in the 21st century.

does the US military really need this airplane? can it really deliver on all the promises made? can we afford it?

I believe the answer to the above series of questions is "No". Are we gonna be stuck with it anyway? Yes.

Say thanks to whichever Senator on the Armed Forces Committee has Lockheed-Martin in their state.

That would be just about all of them. They have branches all over the U.S. The company HQ is in Texas though.
