Space Shuttles

Prompted by a freebie model that was in the wrong scale for me (I like 1:300), I started mooching around and came across this Download page 1

They seem to be offering a free models of every Shuttle mission flown, some of them complete with the payload.

I had a mooch around, but they were all too big and complex for my needs. I thought they just might be of interest to others though, so I've posted the URL for y'all.

I did eventually trip over an ABC magazine clip for a 1:250 model of Discovery, complete with launch stack that should suit my needs fine. It's a simplistic model (I hope) so it shouldn't be hard to rescale it to my desired 1:300. I've tried to post links to this site before, but it's usually pounced on by admin, so sorry not posting it again.

Fill your boots from the AXpaper site though. Wouldn't it be great to see someone build the complete collection?

Do you have Bruno's 1/300 shuttle? It's a fine model, too!

I thought all Bruno's Shuttles were in 1:200. Now I'll have to search through my 1:300 stash to check? I'm pretty sure he's not done one complete wioth the launch stack, but I could be wrong.

Please post location clues if I am. It's a big database stash to search through.

I think he was working on the launch stack, not sure if he released it yet. It was white that goes with his STS-1 Columbia model.

AXM (Alfonso X. Moreno) is not only a very talented designer, he also is a member here, and his models are very well known, John. Look over at the space related sector of the forum and you'll see numerous builds of his shuttle models, the International Space Station model he has up on his site, the Falcon9 launchers from SpaceX, his Delta and Atlas rockets, and all the other stuff.
I have built several of his shuttles and SpaceX launchers. They are very doable, even when reduced to 1/400. You should give it a try.

I thought the models looked good enough to be well known PK, but it was the first time I'd run into them. I'm not a big follower of rockets, spaceships, missiles, or satellites. Real or Sci-Fi. I've an old (really old) affinity with Dan Dare stuff, but little else. Not even really sure why I want a Shuttle model, other than it sorta fits into the Cold War scenario.

If rescaling the ABC model doesn't work out for me, I may well drop back to the AXM models to try shrinking them, but I'm not really looking for that much detail. Just a small representation will do for me.

Alfonso's models are great! I built the STS-117 stack for astronaut Clay Anderson. He is from Nebraska and went to the ISS aboard Atlantis on STS-117. He even signed it and donated it to the local air a space museum.

Heck, there are even pictures of it on the AXM gallery pages!

Rescaling the ABC Colombia was painless using the Zarkov Models rescale calculator. OK, that said 86.6667% and my printer controls can't handle the decimals, so I've run it off at 87%. I don't need the precise accuracy. Comparing it with the many 1/300 Bruno aircraft I have, I didn't realise the shuttle was that big.

Just to check I've not boobed on the rescale, I've done a comparison. I ran off a Bruno 747 and a picture of a 747 piggybacking a Shuttle. Yep, looks about right. All I gotta do now is build it ... and I suppose the 747 too.

Easier said than done though ... these Chemo burned fingers ain't made a model since before Xmas, but I've just started on a stronger drug course, so hopefully someday soon I might start snippin' again.
