Tunnel Books:A Victorian Peep Show

I just "discovered" Tunnel Books, and decided to share them with y'all. Here is some information about them and information how to make one of your own.

Trigger warning: some of the search results show demonstration of carpal tunnel surgery.

De rien

I did a little more internet hunting and found a series with at least 26 videos on how to make pop-ups, not the kind you eat, but pop-ups made from paper:

here is the intro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmiqgKGgEEQ
tutorial 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGJZbNh9Phs
tutorial 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGJZbNh9Phs
You will have to hunt down the rest on your own if you like the first two.

For a serious look at pop ups and their potential as a teaching took, there is a TED-ed presentation where you can learn how to make a pop-up and get a quick geology lesson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZR_b753ZJ0
And I don't want to leave out DINOSAURS, especially T. REX (but there are other beasts, real and imaginary as well)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6JFYMJMQZ0
About the same time animated paper books and toys were becoming popular in Europe the early 19th c., a few Japanese
tatebanko also had some animations, either with turn back flaps or a window cut in the paper with a rotating wheel behind.
I hope pop ups are considered part of paper modeling and that I have not gone off topic.

some pop-ups to download and make

Never knew that was what they were called. They remind me of the poor man's variety we used to make just after the war (when any kind of toys on our side of the Atlantic, (in Holland) were still rare and expensive, preferably during the Christmas holidays. The bottom of a shoe box was covered with cotton wool (to simulate snow), a hole in one of the short sides. Last year's Xmas cards (always kept with long term foresight for just this purpose by one's mother) were cut out to provide sleighs, trees, snowy cottages, wintry figures etc, which were then glued 'in perspective' in the box. The top was then covered with reddish semi transparent paper. Always very Dickensian / athmospheric, cheap, fun to make and show to the grownups. For me, the first step towards paper models. Those were the days...

Check out an OLD KvK Clip on Youtube
Zwarte Shaap En Zondebok
The Clip takes place IN one of those Shadow boxes
as Maartje Collignon is looking in

This is from #14 back in 1993!!!!
The singers are Marjolein Stots & Ferry van der Veer
This Ferry changed name, etc

Do you mean this video :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brqJ...qJLJ_sBoc#t=29
Another trigger warning, the video depicts farm animals, satanic impersonation, full frontal expectoration, stools (both kinds), television abuse, and a bicyclist gang. I don't have a clue about what is going on.

(another video by the same group, it looks like Lord of the Flies in the Netherlands:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KP_hlUYidQ0 )
