Queensland Cane Train stuff

Is it me, or does there appear to have been some new buildings and things added to this CANESIG page?:

Download Queensland Card Kits

Don't remember seeing some of those last time I looked! Anyway, it's a good heads up for those who haven't found this excellent site before.

Not seen this site before, I know it's weird, but I like the 'earth closet' as a fun little model. Thanks for posting the link.👍

Oz must be a truly dry and windblown place if they need a special outdoor shed in which to store earth.

Ha Ha! Some people won't know this, but it's a shed over a DEEEEEP hole in the ground - you do your business in it then shovel some dirt out of a bucket down the hole. When the hole's full, you pick up the shed and move it over another hole. Otherwise known as a "privy".
60 years ago I remember my grandma had a toilet in the back yard that wasn't much more complicated - it was called a "tippler" toilet, and was a shed over a trapdoor direct into the sewer! There was torn-up newspaper on a nail on the wall. I used to be scared (sh*tless?) if I had to use it!

A museum worthy model

Paper Creek Depot | Paper Creek Model Works | V&A Search the Collections

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London have a artistically and culturally significant paper model outhouse in their collection !!

One of the best scenes in The Citadel (A.J. Cronin, 1937) is when the new coal company doctor decided to secretly dynamite the town's tippler toilet system in order to quickly solve a public health problem without going through a lot of bureaucratic hassle. Not being an engineer, he underestimated the power of his explosive charges.
