Women making history

(posted this just before the server crash,
so this is a repost for those who missed it)

Women making history

Artist Brian Gubicza is devoted this year to create a new
paper model each week depicting a woman who has inspired
or influenced the world by her work.

The kits are simple, and easy to build.

You can find them following this link:

goobeetsatoys's DeviantArt gallery

In most of them there is a short biographical note explaining
why her work is relevant to the world. The women represented
go from scientists to actresses, and also activists, politicians
and writers.

The kits are mainly of Northamerican women, though there are
a few from other parts of the world.

So far, this is the list of kits released this year:

- Wonder Woman (as portrayed by Linda Carter)
- Vera Rubin
- Malala Yousafzai
- Dolores Huerta
- Tina Fey (As Liz Lemon)
- Kimmy Schmidt (as portrayed by Ellie Kemper)
- Dr. Mae Jemison (NASA)
- Dr. Mae Jemison (in Star Trek uniform)
- Wangari Maathai
- Maya Lin
- Emma Watson
- Emma Watson (as Hermione Granger)
- Janet Mock
- Angela Lansbury (as J.B. Fletcher)
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg
- Gwendolyn Brooks
- Hedy Lamarr
- Dame Jane Goodall
- Bell Hooks
- Helen Keller

- Rachel Carson
- Lorraine Hansberry
- Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia with Hoth uniform
- Edith Head
- Josephine Baker
- Rosalind Franklin
- Gloria Steinem
- Nichelle Nichols (as Star Trek's Lt. Uhura)

The artist expects to release a new one each week this year.

In his own words:

"Making History is a celebration of real women who shape
our history on this planet. The toys will remain as free
downloads for the entirety of the series. I encourage you
to distribute/use them for educational/non commercial use only.
Now. Go make some history..."

Thanks for sharing this info. I did the Wonder Woman one for my great grandniece. In order to make it a bit sturdier I backed it with cereal box cardboard and then stuffed it with tissue paper. The result was one very pleased little girl.

Seeing as how you mention her Curt ... Wonder Woman isn't included in the set and I couldn't locate her on the Deviant Art site either. Can anyone put a finger on the download link?

Gal Godat is very nice but she comes across as a bit hard. This old codger still has fond memories of the more cuddly Linda version.

He used to have Wonder Woman (classic Linda Carter version), as well as two characters from the netflix GLOW series, and a couple more. I did build the GLOW girls (Zoya and Liberty Belle).

Also not include in the pack: Dr. Mae Jamison in Star Trek uniform. And Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.
But he deleted those. Actually he deleted all the files and just recently uploaded the pack with most of them.

Last time I left a comment in his Deviantart, and he said he probably could send the other files to the people interested.

If you have a Deviantart account you can try contact him. If not, let me know and I nay write to him.
I don't remember if I downloaded Wonder Woman. And right now I'm far from home to check.

I was rather hoping for aa picture of the one Curt built before starting a quest. Wouldn't mind seeing the Princess Leia one as well, but on looking through the collection, I doubt that they will interest me that much. Although as a long term WW/Linda fan, I have built a couple of cubees, so these could be an improvement.

I have seen a few designers start old and new Diana figurines in paper, but to my knowledge none have reached the publication stage ... yet? ... Sabi96 even did a life-size one on commission, but didn't want to build it himself, so it wasn't published.

I suppose I should have downloaded Princess Leia when I got Wonder Woman. I may just have to get a Deviantart account just to contact Brian.

Regarding the Princess Leia, Wonder Woman, Liberty Belle and Zoya kits,
Brian just answered me in DevianArt, and his response was the following:

Quote:
Thanks.
Those were limited time models (no longer available)
I want the focus of this series to remain on "real" women that have made a difference.

There will be more "pop" stuff in the future- just not for "Making History"
So.. if someone grabbed them, they can be happy to have a model that was offered by a limited amount of time.

If you didn't get them at that time, then bad luck :(

Of those, I only got the Zoya and Liberty kits, I checked and I never downloaded Wonder Woman or Leia.
