B-Manic provided the inspiration to hunt down these models.

A few more vintage models
Le Musée de l'image d'Épinal | Mission Centenaire 14-18
L'imagerie d’Épinal pendant la Grande Guerre - Grande Guerre : territoriaux bretons et normands du 87 DIT
One of the sites above had made it very difficult to download the models.

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum has an excellent collection of both Petites Constructions and Grandes Constructions aircraft. Check out the examples below:

> Petites Constructions. Aéroplane Biplan Du Type Wright. Imagerie D'Épinal, No. 1378.

> Monoplan Avec Lequel Blériot Traversa La Manche. Imagerie D'Épinal, No. 1375.

> Grandes Constructions. Aéroplane Monoplan Du Systéme Dit "Antoinette." Imagerie D'Épinal, No. 390.

Hi All,

Thanks to John Wagenseil and B-Manic for their links to these old French paper models. I had not stumbled onto these sites before, and I found a few clear examples of dioramas and models that I have been looking for for quite some time.

May I suggest that this post be transferred to the Vintage Models sub-forum. Interested parties may find it more easily there.

Sorry to say B-Manic, when I clicked on all four of your examples from the National Air and Space Museum, I got 404 Page Not Founds on all four. I'll have a look around the NASM site and see what I can find.

Thanks again guys,

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

Hi All,

Thanks John, for the extra link. Excellent scans of beautiful models. And thanks for the post in Vintage Models directing readers to this post.

For those interested in a bewildering number of Pellerin publications, go to Gallica, the digital library of the Bibliotheque national de France, found here:

Gallica

For the types of models and dioramas we're interested, just type in Pellerin in the search box, or go directly to:

Votre recherche - Pellerin : 41088 résultats - Gallica

This will bring you to the head of the list. There are over 41,000 entries connected to Pellerin, but fortunately, those images that would interest us will be found near the front. That's not to say it isn't a slog to find a gem in the dross, but it's an interesting journey through a fabulous collection.

Attached find a French propaganda piece from Pellerin showing a particularly nasty image of the enemy. While not a model or diorama, it shows the remarkable skill of the French publisher in an image from a century ago.

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

I just fixed the links in Doug's post, they all should now point to the proper Smithsonian page
