Naval Base Yokosuka Dry Dock, and Mikasa

Hi all,

Our friends over at http://www.papermodel.jp have posted a link where 2 of their models are featured, the Mikasa, and dry docks at Naval base Yokosuka, the 6 pages of the dock allow you to build a ship, the docks, and parts which you can place inside the docks to represent various stages of operation.

Go and visit http://www.cocoyoko.net/special/nihonisan_paper.html
and download the files, and enjoy

Rick

Sweeeet !

Funnily, I've just ordered a different model of the Yokosuka naval base today. You can spot there the three paper docks in the rightmost corner.

Here is a link to a story and a picture (on the second page) of one of the drydocks at Yokosuka in 1958. We were living on the bluff in Yokohama at the time and actually saw the accident happen.

The ship was barely moving when it struck the lighthouse, but it sure tore a hole in the bow. Apparently the British were able to negotiate a deal to use the Yokosuka facility for a repair.

I have been to Yokosuka several times before Japan earthquake-311. There has a sight seeing ship tour which will lead you go around US and JMSDF base. Photo taking is amazing!! I also visited Mikasa park. Such a good place worth to visit.

Thank you for such a beautiful model and generous sharing!!

Thanks for the update, there are two Mikasa models available for download, the 1/350 version found by Rick (for adults), and a SD version (for children), as well as a pair of "Damaging wharf gates for children" and an
"Himemi Emon".
