P.Hobby Grumman A-6E Intruder

Just found this model while browsing Pinterest. A nice free Grumman A-6E Intruder model from Kancho. The nose looks a little strange, but it could probably be nice if done right.

Kancho designed a lot of really nice models a few years ago. To the best of my knowledge he recently made all of them available for free.

The nose on this one is pretty intimidating. I think the best way to handle the dreaded petals may be to form the nose as best you can and then use a stiffening agent (C/A or nail polish) to prepare it for sanding and painting.

Here is a search result of the forum that has various techniques to assemble those types of nose cones:
Open Petal Design Assembly
There are a few other things there too.

A few years back I made a pdf of the technique developed by Gil and was given permission to upload it to the Downloads section.

Downloads > Papermodelerscom Self Help Library > Assembly of Open Petal Designs by Gil

The thread was originally posted in June 2008. The photos are missing from the thread but they are in the pdf.

I think you did a great job with that multi-and-irregularly-shaped petal nose.

Good-looking model.

Thanks Don, but that's not my model. That's the photo from PHobby's web site.

Thanks for the link to the building tutorial. It will help a lot if I ever get around to this one. BTW, did you get an damage from Irma? We had lots of wind and rain, but only lost power for a few seconds, so we came out OK.
