World of Tanks Tank Crewman, USSR
Hi all,
Our friends over at World Of Tanks papercraft have released a USSR Tank Crewman in the style of paper-replika's Paper Soldier series You can download the model here https://worldoftanks.ru/ru/news/common/simple-tankman/ For those of you going to the 20th IPMC, this fits in perfectly with the over theme this year. And if you didn't want to build a tank, a perfect substitute Rick

you like that?
I don't like that. The cube base is okay...would be good for a base for a tank model. But the figure is not very nice (considering the quality of their tank models). ....lol that makes two recent posts you have made that I have ragged on. if this keeps up, I might get a complex.

It's about as accurate as the Mark I tank from World of Tanks. The Russian model was based on some drawings published in the 1970s in Russia - they are seriously inaccurate. The free Mark I models available on the Landships website are based on Helen Lawson's drawings - these are so good Masterbox used them in their 1/72 Mark I and Mark II plastic models.
All of the Mark I tanks had visible serial numbers and many had names - the Russians couldn't be bothered even getting this right in the WoT model I did a comparison build of Wayne McCullough's Mark I and the World of Tanks Mark I - I gave up after the sponsons which are just deformed compared to the real tank. www.papermodelers.com/forum/armory/36920-mark-i-tank-models-compared.html Charlie Last edited by CharlieC; 09-11-2017 at 10:24 PM. |

Accuracy really isn't the point here.
This figure model isn't supposed to be "accurate" to anything in the game, or in real life...is it? Its just a weird looking sorta cubee figure that looks very childish to me. Maybe its supposed to? I don't know what the original intent of release was. While I agree with you that the World of Tanks game has a lot of "inaccurate" tanks in it, you must keep in mind that it is a console/arcade video game. Its not a technical manual from the Bovington Museum! And within the context and confines of the game, some inaccuracy must be tolerated for easier rendering and game mechanics. These tanks look great in fast moving pixel form...thats what they were intended for. I built the World of Paper Tanks Centurion model...or tried to...which represents one of the Centurions in the World of Tanks game. It had many physical irregularities such as straight sides on the Hull, as well as a mix of different Mark details. For someone looking to build an accurate 3D model of the tank, it isn't a good choice. But if you aren't so knowledgeable and just want to build "the tank you drive in the game", then its perfect. My criticism here is more about the quality of artwork and overall design of this figure... World of Tanks does a pretty good job with their 3D design for the ingame elements. So this paper model is a big step backwards. And if this model is produced by World of Paper Tanks (as opposed to WoT) then its an even bigger letdown. ... Remember to separate World of Tanks (the game) and World of Paper Tanks (the paper model producers). And when did World of Tanks have a Mk1 in it? I play that game...there are no WW1 tanks in the game. Or did I miss a special event?

oh...FYI the Mk1 Tank...from World of Tanks...was for the special "100 Years of Tank" promotion and is a vehicle in WoT BLitz.
Blitz is the pruned down version of the game for handheld devices(tablet, phone). I don't play Blitz. Obviously there is going to be even less accuracy in those game models. I could be wrong, but I don't think the Mk1 is in the regular version of the game. But, even if it was...its a game...not a Tank simulation. ... Now...if WarThunder ever added WW1 Tanks to their game, they would be a lot more accurate looking since WarThunder tends to go for "accurate simulation" as much as gameplay. The problem with WW1 Tanks in gameplay is they are too slow, too weak, and could only compete against themselves. Even the smallest and weakest WW2 Tank could easily out-run, out-manoeuver and out-gun a Mk 1 tank! lol
