DEWOITINE D338 at 1/66 scale
The D 338 ensured many lines of Air France, both in Europe and outside. But the most famous link was the one between London and Hanoi, and then, Hong Kong from August 1938. It took 6 days flights to travel this distance, the nights being spent in hotels at stopovers. According to the seasons, the routes varied, in winter a road passing through the southern Mediterranean, via Tripoli, was followed, in place of the road via Athens. The "Ville de Strasbourg" and then the "Ville de Vientiane", received her CDN (Airworthiness Certificate) and aircraft registration under the colors of Air France on 11 February 1938, Commandeered by the French Air Force during the WW2, it will be destroyed in June 1941 in Beirut and written off on 30 June 1941. On 10 August 1938 he extended the Marseille Hanoi line to Honk-Kong by ensuring the end-to-end connection with the same crew and aircraft instead of the juxtaposition of the seaplane (Marseille Beirut), the coach (Beirut – Damascus), and three or four types of terrestrial aircraft up to Hanoî. Despite the agreement to fly over Chinese territory with the High Commissioner for Chinese Aviation, Mr. T.V. Soung, the sky was unsafe in the area, hence the huge black "F" on the back of the plane, and the tricolor flag painted on either side of the fuselage as well as on the upper and lower surface of each end of the wings. Gradually, a dozen Dewoitine D338, named after cities in Asia that punctuate the route, were put into service. The Orient line was operated until the summer of 1940. This model (like my other creations) is free download on my website You will find further information about the history of this airplane as well as pictures as the assembly of the model. |

Criquet's website/blog is really interesting. The chrome browser does a good job translating although some of the wording is quite funny sometimes. Many, many French planes I have never heard of. At least 5 Michelin stars!!

Thank you very much.
I speak a little English and I am using "Bing Translator" in helping me. Sorry if the sentences are not well expressed. I'm doing the best I can. My blogs will remain in French, of course, but visit them from time to time, is a great exercise to get acquainted (if it's not already done), with the.... "langue de Molière!" Best regards. |
