NavSource is a very useful resource for images and other information about U.S. warships. Two other valuable sites are (1) the U.S. Navy History and Heritage Command home page (https://www.history.navy.mil/) and the photography section (https://www.history.navy.mil/our-col...otography.html) and (2) Haze Gray and Underway (Haze Gray & Underway - Naval History and Photography), which also provides links to other naval-related sites. For the Merchant Marine: American Merchant Marine at War - Revolution to World War II to today

There are many other sites that provide information and images of ships. Perhaps someday one of us will compile a list and make it available.

The image you posted is of USS South Dakota (BB-57) taken after the completion of repairs at the New York Navy Yard in February 1943. This is the NavSource page on which it appears: Battleship Photo Index BB-57 USS SOUTH DAKOTA

I am curious about the little cluster of people, one of whom appears to be a woman, just forward of the No. 3 16-inch turret. They look as if they were posed for a photograph, but I can't see any photographer.

Hi chicharrero and Don,

thanks for the feedback! I am currently not an active builder but I love to come to this forum now and then to see and enjoy all the marvels you guys present here. One ship I really like and which might tempt me one day to return to modeling actually is an island ferry though not to the Canaries but the Azores, the "Ponta Delgada":

But that will have to wait and for the time being I wish all paper modelers a great time with this beautiful hobby!
