I love that first link with the stock WWI footage interspersed with the tripods. Very effective and the music is creepy. Is that clip from a full length movie? If so, I'd love to see it.

Yep it is, I watched it the other year. Done like a documentary with interviews with survivors from the Great Martian War, very watchable

That sounds very interesting. So far all versions were set in the "modern ages" (1950s up). With the BBC involved I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm really looking forward to this.

There was a version that was set at the turn of the century, in the southeast of the UK. Produced by Pendragon around the same time as the Tom Cruise version but never went beyond internet release,

very low budget and bad acting

If you like bad acting.....
Try youtube and look for "war of the wolds"
not a spelling mistake "wolds" as in Cotswolds

I really liked the first clip. Great compositing and grain matching. I am not a fan of the heavy dub-step music though. I think I would have liked to hear some period music or just sound effects instead. Impressive, nonetheless. The middle section of the clip harkens back to Starship Troopers from a few years back.
