Is this a problem?

10.5 gig of free, legally acquired, models from the internet, and I've hardly scratched the surface. Free models are released so fast by so many new designers that it's getting near impossible to keep up.

Does anyone else have suggestions for cataloging software?

Not even close. I am, in fact, referring to collectors whose accumulation dwarfs yours, and seem to be bent on unending accumulation. One rarely mentioned attraction of paper modeling is that one's wife rarely complains about too many models on the hard drive.

The space factor is definitely a plus for paper models even if you have commercial or printouts of digital models. Haveing been up to around 4000 model car and truck kits at one time, I can testify to that.

As of this week my dedicated model stash drawer can no longer close.
I think I'm going to move my GPM kits somewhere else, since they make a nice little bundle.

It's not a cost factor - I have U-Verse and it takes only seconds to do it. But I just checked, and I have at least 6.8gig worth of model files. True, I have bought 30 or 40 of them off various online sites.

I'm not really concerned - I'm just curious how others view this habit of collecting all the freebies that we can.....

Only 6.8 gigs, you are just starting to collect. At last count I have over 20 gigs in my paper models folder. Some duplicates and a lot of scans of my purchased commercial kits.

I as a rule I do not build any downloaded models I’m too fussy about the quality (average) of my printer. But I do down load them just to see how the designer went about creating the model. For me it is a glance in to the mind of the designer and I often see new solutions to building paper models.

Ah hah!

So I can claim that I being "prudent" - ensuring I have lots of choices. But, I can also claim that this is "professional education" - learning how to solve design problems. Of course, I doubt it is therapeutic..... sometimes I get tempted to pull out some of my remaining hair finding a particular model.

I could also use any suggestions about collecting software. One tool I'd particularly like is a file manager that would display the 1st page of any pdf file. I used to use CompuPic Pro - which can do it, but it isn't available for Vista. Currently I use Faststone, but it doesn't do that.

Vista will show the first page of a PDF if you have it set to "medium icons" or larger, like the old thumbnail views for photos.
