Alan Rose Estate Items on ebay

Just found this item on ebay. It is some of Alan's original work relating to some of his best models. I won't be buying it but I hope that someone out there does just so that it gets preserved.

Very nice items indeed.
Those proofs and original artwork look gorgeous.

No doubt they'll end in the hands of a serious collector.

What I wonder is what company/individual holds the rights to the publishing of those kits now, and how much would be their value. Because one thing is the physical artwork alone, and another thing is the intellectual property of the designs and the rights to reproduce them.

All,

I have a rather surprising update about Alan Rose's archive. I was able to get in touch with the organization that was offering them for sale, and through them with Alan's widow. The bottom line is that I'm now the custodian of the archive. I've signed an agreement with her that I will make a good-faith effort to find a nonprofit organization to accept the materials as a donation. I provided some background about the forum and the International Paper Modelers' Convention, and said that I would like to share the archive with the community at a future convention. She said that was exactly what Alan would have wanted.

The archive consists of four assembled model prototypes - DC-3, Saturn V, Hindenburg and the cable car - and several packets of pasteups, drafts, source material, etc. for a number of his models. It will take a while to digest all of this. The first task will be a condition assessment of the assembled models. They seem to be reasonably well packed, but they've obviously been in storage for quite a while. The DC-3 box looks a little battered (not surprising, because it's big and oddly shaped). I'll have some photos to post here soon.

More to follow, but I wanted to let everyone know about this. I don't know how this project will turn out, but I feel good about the fact that Alan's archive is in the hands of our paper model community.
