New automata models?

A science papercraft website wasn't where I expected to find toy automata, but their 2 newest downloads are prehistoric animal automatas:

紙工作ダウン*ード | BRHカード | *刊「生命誌」 | JT生命誌*究館

And on my quest for Samurai papercraft (watch this space) I came across this great website again, something for everyone:

https://www.iodata.jp/ilovedesk/papercraft/

And that was my 101st post! Yay!

Great find, I like the insects and the galloping critter.

Here is a ancient paper model of an O Yoroi
Antique o-yoroi samurai armor
The model will need clean up and repair, but it builds up a very impressive display piece that will fit into its storage box when Boy's Day is over. Make sure you get both pages.
This page has links to books about and pictures of samurai armor, and a paper model of an O Yoroi that you can buy if you can figure out how to use the Japanese on-line retail system.
Samurai Armor
If you search previous posts you will find links to most of the free download samurai armor models that have been posted on the internet. There are also a couple of samurai related tatebanko in the downloads section of this forum.
GPM a Polish paper model publisher has a paper model samurai armor for sale. It has some inaccuracies but they appear to be easily correctable.

Thanks John. There's actually many more samurai papercrafts available, I've listed the more realistic ones here:

Date Masamune https://web.archive.org/web/20160422...papercraft.pdf
Kuroda Kanbei https://web.archive.org/web/20161125...papercraft.pdf

Specific armor:
Maeda Toshiie https://www.iodata.jp/ilovedesk/pape...oldenarmor.pdf
Maeda Keijiro ‘O“cŒcŽŸ˜Yƒy[ƒp[ƒNƒ‰ƒtƒgb™h‚‚‚‚‚B| •‘E‘@•Žm[‚‚‚‚]‚Žž‘
Mogami Yoshiaki Ǿ˴/Ǿɥڡѡե

Specific Helmet:
Naoe Kanetsugu http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...ou_Ver.2.0.pdf
Uesugi Kenshin http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...kensinsyou.pdf
Uesugi Kagekatsu http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...ekatsusyou.pdf
Mogami Yoshiaki http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...mogamisyou.pdf
Oda Clan http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/.../odakesyou.pdf
Date Masamune http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...n/datesyou.pdf
Maeda Keijiro http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/.../maedasyou.pdf
Takeda Shingen http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...inngensyou.pdf
Honjo Shigenaga http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...honjousyou.pdf

Sakai Tadatsugu http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/.../sakaisyou.pdf
Sakakibara Yasumasa http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...kibarasyou.pdf
Katakura Kagetsuna http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...takurasyou.pdf
Ii Naomasa http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/..._mini_ver2.pdf
Honda Tadakatsu http://www.yonezawa-naoe.com/images/...akatu_syou.pdf

Specific weapons:
Three great spears of Japan http://mogamiyoshiaki.jp/?p=log&l=391135
Oni-kiri (Demon-cutter) katana http://mogamiyoshiaki.jp/?p=log&l=432857

Generic armor:

Generic weapons:
Four Samurai weapons http://mogamiyoshiaki.jp/?p=log&l=390793
Straight spear http://mogamiyoshiaki.jp/?p=log&l=391137

It's easy enough to rescale the MAPS figures and armor models to 1/18, then build your chosen armor over Date or Kuroda especially if the helmet has a full mask that covers the face.
As you can see, Samurai modelers have a case of too many chiefs and not enough injuns, which inspired me to do a generic Ashigaru ('light foot') recolor. I've just uploaded a new file that adds more build options to make more foot soldier variations.

Lorenzo,

Thank you for the links, but I wish you just linked to the page where the files are located, and not deep link to the actual files, this way if there are any other files, or ads, the designer can get money from the views.

Plus it is better netiquette.

Rick,

Normally I try not to deep-link as seen in my previous posts, for the reasons you mentioned.

This time though I imagine few forum members read Japanese, and some don't have browsers with translate functions. These pages have links to multiple models that I wanted people to identify instantly to keep their interest going.

But you raise a good point, we should all be more considerate to generous designers providing free content!

I should also add that Samurai helmet and weapon display sets are traditional for Tango-no-sekku or Boy's Day in Japan, so there are plenty of papercrafts online although mostly generic or fanciful. There's one that resembles Takayama Shigetomo's helmet from a woodblock print, but none for his colorful laced armor.

I think my previous comment on another thread topic is worth repeating here:

I was rooting around for Samurai-related diorama stuff and I hit the motherlode with Canon's Hinamatsuri (girl's festival) 3D display here:
https://cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/CNT-0011649/index.html

It has nice 3D figures of the Emperor, Empress and 3 ladies in waiting at roughly 90mm (1/18) scale on the first page.

Also, here's a new link to Canon's Japanese swords and helmets:
https://cp.c-ij.com/en/categories/CA...483/index.html

Finally a blast from the past, Canon's Costumes of the World:
https://web.archive.org/web/20041204...ume/index.html

Includes 3D-ish figures of a pre-Sengoku era Japanese concubine in a Ju-ni Hitoe, and a woman from Brest, France in the traditional costume. More 1/18 diorama possibilities!

Those Costumes of the World are nice to have. I found the original site many years ago but it dissapeared. Searching on the Wayback Machine a few years ago showed it was archived.
Thanks for the reminder of the place.
