Questions about Model Kartonowy books
Not sure if this is the proper place to ask these questions.
I see these paper model books from model kartonwy and had a couple of questions. 1. Are these ones you paste onto cardstock or already printed on the required cardstock and cutout for build? 2. Is there a vendor for these in the USA? If so any links? 3. If #2 is a no what kinds of issues have people in the USA experienced when purchasing these books (ie., shipping, customs, etc.)?

"Model Kartonowy books"-I'm not sure what product are you referring to.Link to seller?
Every paper model included with any magazine in Poland was always printed on proper cardstock. At leasthose I have ever seen.Quality of that cardstock is another matter but most were done on 80-100 lb grade so it's perfectly fine. |

"Model Kartonowy" is a generic Polish phrase which means "Card Models".
Using "Model Kartonowy" for an Ebay search yielded 65 card model magazine/books on Ebay International. The magazine/books are made by several different companies. Which company made the "Model Kartonowy" books ? |

Papirovy Models uses the phrase "Model Kartonowy" like a product/company name.
Other companies have it in smaller print, after their company name. Maybe thats who he is referring to?

btw-as far as I know Marek Pacynski is the only polish designer who sells his models in digital format.None of the paper models companies sell their models on their web sites but some offer free ones.
If you come across anyone offering digital ones chances are they are pirated kits and I do hope that changes one day at least for 1:50 kits. |

I think he is only asking about preprinted kits (books). He is just asking asking about any kit that is printed on lightweight paper and will require pasting/laminating to heavier cardstock. Many kits require you paste/laminate certain parts, like internal formers, to heavier cardboards. Its usually explained in the kit, what thickness the parts must be. This is common and normal. Usually a preprinted kit is printed on the lightest weight of paper/card that is needed for the model. So, skins and detail parts will already be on the recommended paper weight. I've never seen a kit that required you to laminate the basic parts.

Those I have seen were printed black&white on the same newspaper print like rest of the magazine. You had to glue them on cardstock or thick card from shoe boxes, build them and paint them yourself. Tedious but cheap and if modeler was inventive you could build very nice model for minimal cost.I've seen few tanks done from those kits. |

Yes, exactly. I didn't know it was a generic name. Just been seeing it pop up in form forums so it made me curious.

That publication did some good and well fitting models.Avia C-99 was likely the first ME-109 that was printed in whole eastern block for quite some time.It came with Czech colors and could have been converted to any model from G-2 to G-14 and with some modifications model K.Very good model.La-7 was really cool,Fokker G1 was also well fitted.I still have those models in my boxes.
edit-paper wasn't so good, especially on Fokker G1,quality of the print wasn't spectacular but was better than Maly Modelarz from those days.If you buy it scan it ,print and build. |
