Pirate Site, any good?

Hey all,

Stumbled across this site while searching for larger scale Olympic class liner models

URL removed, Pirate Site

They have different scales of the Titanic and her sister ships, but I was wondering if the site was any good.

Thanks,

Cheers, Ian

no, Alice, and their various incarnations on Ebay and other auction and retail sites, is a pirate site.

While they might try and provide a printing service, they stole the models, including freely available ones.

I would suggest you steer clear of this site

Rick

I have edited your original post as to not give the site in question any more web traffic, and the spiders can't index it, and rank it higher

I have seen couple of those airplane kits sold by "Alice"-they are not printed on professional printers and paper quality is (or was?) questionable. In short-waste of money and theft.

You will get the same results just printing them at home.

This is excellent and very important information
that I wish we could spread to those looking at these sellers on Alice and eBay.

Unfortunately a lot of these pirated kits are now starting to appear on Chinese online shopping apps like Wish and Joom. They even still use the company brand name (GPM etc) in some cases. These apps only let you comment on a product if you actually purchase it so there is no way to alert unsuspecting buyers in advance and although I've reported a few as I've seen them, the companies hosting these sellers either do nothing or continue to allow new sellers to sell these kits.

Piracy and copying other people's designs just seems to be "the way of the world" in China and I don't think it's ever going to be stamped out.

There was recently a case where copyright law managed to put a stop to Lepin selling copies of Lego kits... They were trading again under new names within days.

Unfortunately, technology allows piracy. Just check YouTube and you will find several software with crack and keygen, also movies, music, etc. etc. Also, torrents are the most common way of downloading pirated movies and other items. Governments tried to stop it, Owners went to jail but they were soon released and their torrent pages were again available. What a pity!! And what about high priced watches like Rolex? The Chinese have copied them so exactly that sometimes a real expert is needed to differentiate originals from copies.

One format that will never be pirated unless it is done with low quality is vinyl records. Pressing vinyls needs a very large and expensive machinery. Only on tape can a vinyl disc be copied and the outcome is poor sound quality.

The only way in which we can help to at least discourage somehow piracy, is not getting these models or whatever is not legal. Also, some prices are very, very high and that encourages somehow piracy specially in poor countries. So lets keep legal and enjoy our wonderful hobby.

LOL Petestein

Technology has absolutely nothing to do with why piracy exists.
Piracy is theft of someone else's property.
Theft (and Piracy) have existed for millennia...right back to the Stone Age.

"Ugh...give me woman....want woman....oooh Rock....I take rock now. ugh"

Technology may have evolved...and piracy has evolved along with it.

But without peoples, there would be no piracy.
Peoples are piracy (as Edward G Robinson once said)

You seem to think that once the internet appeared, that torrents, cracks, keygens, movies just magically appeared?
No...peoples put them there!

Did you know they have the internet on computers now?
...that should make things easier for pirates.

There is one thing I do agree on...high costs and low income.
It will also contribute to theft and piracy.

So, if you are a designer, looking to put your designs up for sale...please consider less profit and a lower price.
Stop being so greedy.
The more expensive your model is, the more poor modelers will look for a pirated copy.

I come from the 60s and 70s...we know what bootlegs are.
You obviously don't.

I have some excellent quality bootlegs.
