RWD polish trainer in Palestine ( pre 1948 )
A new kit of a Polish trainer from the 1930's has now been published and available to purchase in printed form. The kit is from Modelarstwo kartonowe and it is the RWD-8 'VQ-PAG'.
picture from their site: The significance of this version is that it represents the one of two RWD-8 purchased to serve the Jewish community in Palestine ( the name of Israel while part of the British mandate which ended in 1948 ). It was purchased as a trainer and general purpose aircraft including scouting and was part of the first pre Israel Independence aviation company called Aviron ( which means airplane in Hebrew ). Later on the Hagana military organization used it as well as part of Sherut Avir or Air Service in Hebrew ). The registration of the aircraft was VQ-PAG. The VQ was designation for Palestine under British rule ) The kit apparently has good details and even has laser frames, wheels, engine kit and dashboard available. I found it on these sites: https://www.super-hobby.com/products/RWD-8-VQ-PAG.html and https://sklep.gpm.pl/modele-kartonow...wd-8dw1-vq-pag I recall building the old Maly model which was very simple and probably was inferior to this version. That maker has some really good kits in the catalogue. From what has been posted on Konradus looks like they are well fitting kits and maker/designer is very interested in modelers input.I hope that doesn't create a problem in the future.
I'm looking forward to seeing that RWD come together.Good looking plane in very eye catching livery and with very significant historical background. |
