South African Garage & General Store
When browsing on Flikr found two buildings with a South African flavour - both General Dealer stores.
These are typical of the first half of the 1900s in the smaller towns, and can still to be found all over the place today in South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mocambique and most of Southern Africa in fact. Posted by Etiennedup... https://www.flickr.com/photos/827078...in/photostream

Thanks for those Kevin, nice to know we are thought of somewhere else in the world.
They would fit in nicely in a little Karoo diorama Owen |

They would Owen!
I have a suspicion that there are more buildings - to produce two stores in isolation is odd! I suspect there must be a house or two, a garage and a church at least! But I have done a search - with no luck. ---------------------- If anyone else knows of any others, I would be interested.

Funny! It looks like the buildings are indeed part of a small town called Caltexdal (Caltex Valley). And hey, I understand this: Poskantoor and Algemene Handelaar. Sort of Dutch...

Hi Erik - you would understand it - Afrikaans!
I didn't pick up on the Caltexdal - will start researching again. Could have been a petrol station handout or collection item.

On the Toto site, they were listed as distributed by Texaco, if I remember correctly
I think there was also a Caltex bus
