Medieval hovel, simple free building model

Go on and grab this free papercraft model PDF for your fantasy and medieval games, class projects, or just for fun! It's a cheap and easy model that you can put together in no time. I designed it and One Monk Miniatures (onemonk.com) was kind enough to host it.

Enjoy!

Dave,

Thank you for the free hovel.
My troops will find welcome refuge from the cold in the hovel.

I do not understand how the alternate skins work.
I am using Foxit reader version 2.0.
Perhaps the alternate skins do not work for Foxit ver. 2.0.

Ken

Ah! The free model doesn't have alternate layers. The guy who set up that image for me was mistaken about that. I'll talk to him about correcting the description.

I do plan to release another free model that includes a few optional layers, since they're fun to play with. I'll post any of my free models here when they're ready.

I'm not sure exactly hovelong it took to design this one, but generally a building this size would take me 3 to 6 hours. I start off with lots of prepared photographic elements, which takes time and scouting trips. I assemble and layer the elements in Photoshop to arrive at the final look, and add weathering using a couple of prepared moss/discoloration layers and also some hand-drawing.

Most of my model designs take 2 full days' work, including the instructions and 3D mock-ups.

Wow! Now I'm really impressed. Designers such as yourself deserve a lot of respect. You spend all that time creating a new model, and still have the courtesy to offer it for free.

I've just made the little hovel last night. Took me about 20 minutes. The details you made on it give it quite a bit of character. I'm thinnking of making another and print extra copies so that I could layer the details and make them really stand out.

Thanks for a great model!

Thanks for your showing us your work (and the free ones!)

Best Regards,
