Thanks for the heads up, Papyfil!
The Japanese part of the caption of mig15_v13, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 reads: Shoki-kei (early type), 1950 nendai (1950s) [literally, nendai means "era" or "period," and in this context can be read as "1950s"]. The description under the "work" tab shows two versions, this one and a North Korean version. I sure hope Trotskiy-san will make the North Korean version available. Can anyone identify the unit of Aircraft No. 841? Don Last edited by Don Boose; 01-25-2009 at 12:33 PM. |

I haven't been able to locate which unit was the home of 841 Red. However, I was able to find out that MiG-15bis, serial no. 128041, also known as 841 Red, was used in the Soviet air force, until it was later sent to North Korea. I am still attempting to find out if, and when if it was, shot down during that that conflict.

Good info, Ash!
I thought we'd hear from you. I wonder if Charlie C. or Mark or one of the other aircraft marking mavens will weigh in? Don |

Needed to do something fun after the Lenin Rolls-Royce, so this morning I took a couple of hours for a Trotskiy. Great therapy!
This was really just a test run to see if I could do what I was planning with the Fairey Swordfish. I was hoping to take my time and super detail this one to see just how far I could take a Trotskiy. Unfortunately, this is one of the ones that if you give the basic forms more dimension (rounding the fuselage, shaping the wings) everything is really thrown out of whack. I would have to redraw a number of elements to make it work and I'm just not up to that at the moment. Still, it's a great little model that fits perfectly!:D The kit comes with a torpedo and bomb. I chose the torpedo and it's a little tricky at the aft end. It's been a while since I've done a Trotskiy and I forgot just how enjoyable they are to build. Chris |

Beautiful job, Chris! I've been planning to try this one for a long time. I knew that you had one in the works and am glad to see that you got it built. Thanks for all the fine photos from different angles.
I printed out a Trotskiy Shiden and am thinking of throwing it together as I work on the contest Shiden. Don |

I've downloaded some Trotskiys, but never built one. How do you guys print them out? The .pdf fits on a really large sheet which my printer can't handle. Do you just scale them to fit A4 or 8.5 x 11?

Jim,
That's all I do is scale them to fit. If I've got A4 that's what I use, but I also am not particular about the scale, so I print on US letter as well. If your graphic program allows you to copy sections of PDFs, you can enlarge them some. Don, I'd really like to go whole hog on one of these Swordfish, but they really shift dynamically as soon as the forms get rounded so I think I'll wait a while and see if I can figure out an easy way to make it work. You should definitely do the Shiden. That's exactly what I did last year with the Raiden and it helped fire me up for the MM version. Can't wait to see it! Chris |

I print the files on a A3 printer HP Deskjet 1100C, but sometimes I split them to fit and to print on a A4 printer.
